Dr. Paul Lewis, M.D., is a physician board-certified in interventional and diagnostic radiologist by the American Board of Radiology and currently holds an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Dr. Lewis is further certified as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) demonstrating knowledge and expertise in vascular sonography interpretation and interventions.

After completing his residency in Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Radiology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Dr. Lewis completed sub-specialized fellowship training in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Dr. Lewis joined the UPMC team in July 2018 and primarily works at UPMC East in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. There his practice as an interventional radiologist includes but not limited to image-guided diagnostic biopsies, chest port placement, arteriovenous fistula maintenance and restoration, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, prostate artery embolization and other minimally invasive image-guided procedures.

Patients of Dr. Lewis describe his practice as open, honest and responsive to them. His team practices on evidence-based medicine and performs the most advanced clinically accepted procedures. To remain at the forefront of these advancements, Dr. Lewis reviews for many research journals within and outside of his field and performs his own research. Dr. Lewis’ top research interests are bone interventions, operational management and healthcare policy. He has published more than 35 articles in more than 20 scientific journals and his work has been cited by others more than 1,700 times. Dr. Lewis has presented his work locally, regionally and nationally on more than 55 occasions.

Outside of these major roles, Dr. Lewis fulfills a number of national leadership responsibilities and research activities. Specifically, he is actively involved in the Society of Interventional Radiology (sirweb.org) initiative for building an industry-leading, nationwide data registry, VIRTEX. He also participates in reviewing Continued Medical Education material for the American College of Radiology (ACR.org) that is used to keep participating radiologists up-to-date on the advancements in diagnostic and interventional radiology.

Finally, to further his positive impact in healthcare, Dr. Lewis completed the Katz Graduate School of Business Executive Master in Business Administration in Healthcare in 2022. His focus is increasing efficiency in hospital operations and optimizing patient care.
