Professional Biography Of PAUL B. LEWIS, MD,MBA,RPVI
Dr. Paul Lewis is a board-certified interventional radiologist at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and is an appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Radiology at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined the UPMC and Pitt teams in the July of 2018. Dr. Lewis performs his roles as a clinician and interventionalist alongside medical image interpretation as a board-certified diagnostic radiologist.
Dr. Lewis’ patients describe his practice as open, honest and responsive to them. Testimonials to the care provided by Dr. Lewis and his team are shared online or by word-of-mouth. As a consult and an expert in his field Dr. Lewis works with both inpatients and outpatients. In some situations, he takes the role as the primary provider from pre-procedure to after care clinical follow-up. His team practices on evidence-based medicine and performs the most advanced clinically accepted procedures. To remain at the forefront of these advancements, Dr. Lewis reviews for many research journals within and outside of his field and performs his own research. Dr. Lewis’ top research interests are bone interventions, operational management and healthcare policy. He has published more than 35 articles in more than 20 scientific journals and his work has been cited by others more than 1,700 times. Dr. Lewis has presented his work locally, regionally and nationally on more than 55 occasions.
Outside of these major roles, Dr. Lewis fulfills a number of national leadership responsibilities and research activities. Dr. Lewis is actively involved in the Society of Interventional Radiology (sirweb.org) initiative for building an industry-leading, nationwide data registry, VIRTEX. He also participates in reviewing Continued Medical Education material for the American College of Radiology (ACR.org) that is used to keep participating radiologists up-to-date on the advancements in diagnostic and interventional radiology.
Dr. Lewis graduated from Rush University Medical School in Chicago with an MD and Master in Science (MS), completed his Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine residency at Rush University Medical Center and his fellowship in Vascular & Interventional Radiology at the University of Illinois in Chicago. To expand the positive change he can make as a physician, Dr. Lewis completed the executive MBA in Healthcare program at the University of Pittsburgh Katz Graduate School of Business.
